THROUGH MY LENS: Like falling water

Latourell Falls, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon.

Next to where I live in upstate New York, western Oregon is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Along the Pacific coast and the Columbia River Gorge, in particular, I felt like I’d stumbled back in time. Everything is very green and wet and alive, it’s almost primordial.

Yes, it’s rather gray there and rains often. But when the sun does come out it takes your breath away – made all the more beautiful and amazing for the briefness of its’ appearance.

And with all the wet, waterfalls are everywhere. Huge trees and other plants thrive alongside them, growing tall and lush in the temperate climate. I expected a dinosaur to step out at any moment, it was a place so otherworldly to me.

I long to go back again someday. For now I’m reliving my travels for a bit, through my many treasured photographs of this incredible landscape.

I've never really liked labels: I am this, I am that... But in the interest of introducing myself to the world, I can say that I am many things: nurse, writer, photographer, poet, painter, gardener, friend, armchair philosopher, counselor, nature lover, real-estate aficionado, movie buff, sometime yogi, and aspiring world-traveler. I think that's a pretty good list... for now. I want to become a bigger part of the vital, creative force I feel deeply at work in the world and connect with other people who want to do the same.
